Whatever next?… A marker float that streams underwater footage to your mobile!

Fish Spy

There is no doubt about it, the landscape of Carp Fishing has changed dramatically since i first started angling over 20 years ago. Whether it has changed for better or worse is a hot topic of conversation, if my Granddad were alive today he would be mortified by the range of technological aids available to the modern carp angler. However, like many Carp Anglers my time on the bank is limited (very limited) and anything which helps maximise my chances is very welcome.

An email landed on my desk this week with a link to a new product called “FishSpy”, and i must admit, my initial feelings were mixed. However i really believe this has a place in the modern Carp Anglers arsenal. Like with most technological aids in angling, it really depends on how you use it. FishSpy will be another tool that can really enhance your chances of putting extra fish on the bank, if used correctly.

The claims on the website are bold! – “FishSpy is the result of two years intense development by the team at Total Fishing Gear, thousands of hours of testing and hardcore fishing – but it’s been worth it. FishSpy will change the way you fish for ever.”

And they maybe right….

I’ve yet to test the product but the videos on their website www.fishspy.com offer a good idea of what to expect when using the product in the right conditions. FishSpy is essentially a market float which streams live underwater video footage back to your mobile device without the need for an internet connection. Check out the video below to get an idea of how it works.

This product certainly won’t be for everyone, but used in the right situation FishSpy could offer you a real edge to your angling. Some of the product features include:

  • Stream live underwater footage to your phone or tablet
  • No need for a phone or internet signal
  • Ideal for feature finding
  • Check your bait is presented perfectly
  • Watch live as fish interact with your baited area
  • Record up to 7 hours of footage onto built in hard disk
  • Over 3 hours battery life
  • Up to 100 meters range
  • Mark your key moments whilst recording

It will be interesting to see how the angling community react to this product. Im sure there will be a variety of opinions but i certainly think it will be a great tool when used in the right situation.

I’m not normaley one for all the latest gadgets and gizmos as far as fishing is concerned but I really think this could be a great product to have in my tackle box as time is very limited on the bank and would make feature finding and rig presentation so much easier and depending on the quality of the product and video footage feed back I look forward to seeing this on the shelves and actually seeing one in action for real

I see these type of devices being banned on most waters and the poor guys that own one will want there money back. I’m sure introducing these types of devices to young or in experienced anglers will entail in a loss of skills such as watercraft. I would say respect to FishSpy for trying something different and maybe they should market the product as a device for testing rigs and bait in the water or filming underwater shots.
